Why the DNC Refuses to Release their Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: An Analysis.

This decision from the DNC to suppress the publication of its internal autopsy report concerning the last presidential race seems remarkable but entirely predictable. Resistant to hard truths, the Democrats' governing body behaves more like a PR firm rather than a political organization committed to building grassroots capacities to secure victories.

A Climate Resistant to Internal Critique

Reluctant to depart from the party establishment's culture demanding unity, the committee has stayed under the influence of the previous administration all through 2025. Making public such a report might have shown that the leadership truly desire to encourage honest conversation about the strategic failures that paved the way for Donald Trump to win re-election. Instead, the DNC is proceeding under the pretense that there is little to glean from the electoral catastrophe of 2024.

Our guiding principle: will this lead to victory? Should the answer be negative, it’s a distraction from the core mission," an explanation which was presented for withholding the report.

Major Failures a Report Would Have Examined

A genuine analysis of substance would not dodge a series of difficult topics. This encompasses:

  • Voter Disengagement: The loss of a significant portion of the electorate who supported the party's candidate in 2020 became a critical factor in the close 2024 election.
  • The Choice to Seek Re-election: The determined choice of the incumbent to stay in the race, alongside a very late step-aside, is viewed as denying Democratic voters of open primaries.
  • Abandoning Everyday Americans: During a time of rising costs, the campaign is criticized for accommodating powerful financial backers while failing to confront the effects of profit-seeking.
  • A Foreign Policy Impact: The refusal to adjust a stance on the situation in Gaza is cited as alienating key demographic groups, notably among young people, Arab-Americans, Muslim voters.
  • Losing Young Voter Allegiance: Polling data shows a significant decline of Democratic support among young voters.

A History of Evasion

This refusal is consistent with a longstanding habit to avoid uncomfortable facts. It recalls an episode in which nearly all Democratic officeholder in Washington acquiesced to an incumbent's determination to running for re-election right up until a poor campaign event compelled an exit.

Concurrently, overwhelming numbers within the party's base were continually telling researchers of their opposition to that candidate to be the nominee.

Financial Issues

A substantive analysis could probe issues about where money went, including how much money were directed to high-priced advisors and ad buyers during a campaign that burned through an enormous sum in a short period.

The Larger Problem

Ultimately, the secrecy of the official autopsy points to a deference to the existing power structure who engineered a losing national race. The message to rank-and-file members – including countless small donors – appears to be that they do not have a right to understand what the insiders claim to have learned based on a report based on extensive interviews.

A party incapable to honestly assess where it went wrong finds it difficult to break free from the pattern that proved so helpful to the rival party.
